First Day of Orientation
Well, we are all finished with our first day of orientation. The picture (above) is from the children's orientation area. Each of our kids mentioned how much they enjoyed today's orientation. Their first session was on Chinese Calligraphy. They learned how to write "Jesus." Then they had a session talking about Health in a foreign country. They also had sessions on prayer journaling, stretching and growing, "The Big Move," and card making. As a teaching activity, they also had to barter for their afternoon snack (sounded pretty fun). It was fun to watch all of the children connect throughout the day. As the day went on, they grew closer and closer. By the time orientation was finished tonight, they were all playing games together. The games continued as we arrived at the World Missions Condos. We had a bunch of kids running around playing Capture the Flag.
Rachel and I also had orientation throughout the day. We had sessions on Culture and Race, Staying Healthy Overseas, and Poverty and Community Development. It was fun to see how passionate each of the presenters were on their topic. We also were able to connect with a bunch of the adults at orientation. In particular, we connected with the other two families. One family has three girls and will be spending the next year in Nicaragua. The other family has three boys and a girl and will be spending the next two years in Guatemala.
We were able to spend the last part of the evening at Paul and Marie Tenelsof's house eating some ice cream and catching up. The kids also had a bunch of fun meeting their international guests and playing UNO.
It's been a long day, but a good day. We're all tired and ready for bed.
Buenos Noches!
